Markel Insurance Company (carrier for our
IBA West Program) has made some necessary changes in order to
continue this program.
Effective 1/1/07 both new and renewal
business the following changes in the IBA West Program will
occur:
- Program limits $2,500,000 per location
per insured
- Age limitation for wood frame
construction: 1970 and newer
- Age limitation for all other
construction: 1974 or newer
- Minimum valuation for buildings: $75.00
per square foot

During the past few weeks your office
has received several pieces of paper in addition to the Geovera
quote itself. These
additional forms are as follows:
1.
California
Residential Property Insurance Bill of Rights
2.
California
Residential Property Insurance Disclosure
3.
Forms of Coverage for
Dwellings
As you may now realize, they have not
added these forms for the fun of it. In fact the California
D.O.I. has directed them to make these three forms available to any
person who accepts a Geovera earthquake quote. So can we stop faxing them
with every quote? Yes!
If you agree to keep a set of the forms in your office, copy them
and provide it to your prospect with the earthquake
quote.
It is my opinion that you can omit the
California Residential Insurance Bill of Rights as it refers
specifically to homeowners insurance and, of course, the earthquake
policy is not a homeowners product. The other two forms do have
some application to the earthquake policy.
What we need to know from you is if
you would rather have a supply of these forms on hand and you make
copies as you need them, or do we continue to run your fax machines
out of ink?
Unless we hear from you, I have no
choice but to fax these 3 forms with each quote.

Effective immediately regarding IBA West
Program:
Due to circumstances beyond our control, as of
8/8/06, a moratorium will be imposed for new business in San
Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Santa
Clara, Santa Cruz and Sonoma counties. These will be in addition to
the new business moratorium already in place in Los Angeles County
(4/15/06). The program remains open for renewal business in all
counties.

UPDATES TO GEOVERA AND PACIFIC SELECT PROPERTY INSURANCE
COMPANIES
Effective with new business quoted on
3/21/06 and later; and, renewal
business with effective dates of 5/20/06 and later, the following
changes will be implemented for GeoVera’s earthquake
programs:
-
Effective March
21st, our maximum available ”Combined Single Limit”
per risk location will be
increased from
$1,000,000 to $1,500,000 for new business and $2,000,000 for
renewal business for both our Standard and Comprehensive
products.
- The “demand surge,” which is a
factor included in our coverage calculation to take into account
the increased costs to repair or replace homes following a natural
disaster, will be
increased by 5% for
homes with 3501+ square footage for both the Standard and
Comprehensive products
- Updated information concerning
year built and square footage will be applied to the valuation
calculation for GeoVera’s Standard policies and Pacific Select
Property’s Premier and Security policies. The increase in coverage as a
result of this revision will range from 3% to 20% based on the
age and square footage of the dwelling. This revision is necessary
to help ensure that homes are adequately insured in the event of a
natural disaster.
